Detective Danny Johnson began his career in Law Enforcement with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) in 1998 as a Community Service Officer assigned to the Department of Detention Services.
Since his employment with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Johnson has been a Field Training Officer, General Subjects Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. After being promoted to Detective, he has worked Property Crimes, General Crimes, and Intelligence. Detective Johnson also spent three years attached to the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations (IRS-CI) and was deputized as a Special Deputy US Marshall participating in the SAR Review Team within the US Attorney’s Office. Detective Johnson is currently assigned to Internal Affairs.
Detective Johnson is a member of the HCSO Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) and has responded to numerous hostage, barricaded suspect, and suicidal subjects during his 14 years on the team. He is currently the Team Leader for the HCSO CNT. Detective Johnson has been recognized for his knowledge and experience in the field of negotiations and has been a guest speaker for the Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators, Michigan Association of Hostage Negotiators, California Association of Hostage Negotiators, National Tactical Officers Association, and other professional organizations around the country. Detective Johnson has also been a guest instructor for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and in 2012 he was recognized by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for his contributions to their Crisis Negotiations program. He is currently a member of the Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators (FAHN) and the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA).
