Anthony Portman started his career with the Belleair Police Department in 1998 as a Police Officer. During this time he became involved with D.U.I. Enforcement by attending the 24 hours SFST’s class by NHTSA and IPTM in 2001. In 2002 he transferred to the Tampa Police Department as a Patrol Officer. After 2 years he was transferred into the D.U.I. Enforcement Unit of the Tampa Police Department. From 2004 to 2011 Anthony investigated over 5000 D.U.I. investigation ranging from fatal crashes to just alcohol or drug impaired stops. During the same period Anthony arrested over 2300 people for D.U.I. In 2015 he was promoted to the Corporal of the D.U.I. Unit where he was in charge of fatal traffic crash investigation involving impaired drivers. Now, Anthony is currently holds the position of Detective in the District Latent Investigative Squad.
Anthony is a Drug Recognition Expert, Drug Recognition Expert Instructor, D.U.I. Instructor, CMS Instructor and is the Drug Recognition Expert Coordinator for the Tampa Police Department. He teaches D.R.E, ARIDE, and standardized field sobriety exercise courses to law enforcement officers and has spoken to and provided instruction for many other groups. He has been certified as an expert witness in Hillsborough County and has attended numerous conferences and other alcohol related courses.
Anthony has an Associates of Science in Criminology and an Associated of Arts degree.
