This hands-on session will assist officers when traffic stops escalate from a cooperative stop to a response to resistance. You will be presented with primary and secondary dangers, as well as environmental factors that can contribute to gaining or losing control of the vehicle compartment and its occupants. You will learn to identify motorist/driver and occupant/passenger movements and how to address them, as well has how to transition from visual control to verbal control and mentally prepare for a physical confrontation during these transitional points of a traffic stop. Lastly, you will be presented with techniques to mentally recover in order to properly handle subject control, scene security and evidence preservation.
