About IPTM

The Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) is a Direct Support Organization (DSO) of the University of North Florida. Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, IPTM is a self-supporting, not-for-profit organization.

IPTM was established in 1980 with a simple yet lasting philosophy: to provide cost-effective, cutting-edge training to the criminal justice community, thus enhancing the quality of service by law enforcement to our communities. For 40 years, this basic philosophy has guided IPTM as it has grown into the largest and most varied national law enforcement training institute in the country.

Currently, IPTM conducts 400+ courses to more than 8,000 law enforcement professionals each year. These professionals include operational, supervisory, and command level officers from throughout the United States, the U.S. territories, and numerous foreign countries.

Our courses are designed to improve the skills and abilities of officers and acquaint them with the new technology, theories, and techniques in their fields of interest. Classroom presentations are often coupled with practical, hands-on exercises giving students the opportunity to apply the theories and skills learned in the classroom to situations faced by today’s law enforcement agencies.

The IPTM instructional team consists of professionals who possess a blend of practical law enforcement skills, years of police training experience, and quality academic credentials. The full-time faculty is supplemented by a cadre of highly qualified adjunct instructors who remain as practitioners within the law enforcement community and keep the programs in touch with the modern technology, current trends, and social demands of today’s society.

In addition to our open tuition classes, IPTM courses are also available on a contractual basis. Our on-site contract training can be a cost-effective means for obtaining customized instruction that is specifically tailored to the needs of your agency.

What We Offer

IPTM was created to provide management and traffic training to municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers. As new technology, theories, and techniques evolved, IPTM expanded its programs to include: Criminal Investigation, Crime Scene Forensics, Hostage and Crisis Programs, Drug and Gang Enforcement, and several specialty programs. We deliver classroom instruction on campus in Jacksonville, online, or on-site at your agency.

IPTM offers the William H. Hagerty Proficiency Certificate Program to recognize those who have demonstrated proficiency in Homicide Investigations, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations, and Hostage Crisis Negotiations. Law enforcement officers may use courses taken during the last five years (from the year they apply) to qualify for the certificate program.

Additionally, IPTM has an extensive WebStore, where you can purchase instructional manuals and textbooks used in our courses, crash investigation and specialty publications, and a variety of templates and tools.
