  • How do I register for IPTM courses?

    Step-by-step instructions for registration are listed on our How to Register page. Full payment must accompany all registrations.

    You can register online and pay with your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit card, or download a Registration Form and mail it to IPTM with a check.

  • What is your cancellation/refund policy?

    Cancellation and refund policies vary by course delivery and type. Please visit the Cancellation and Refunds page for additional information

    In the event that IPTM must cancel a course for which registration has been completed, a full refund will be issued.

    Note: Classes will not be confirmed until a minimum enrollment criterion has been met. At that time, a written confirmation letter will be emailed to you.

  • Who teaches your courses?

    The IPTM instructional team consists of professionals who possess a blend of practical law enforcement skills, years of police training experience, and quality academic credentials. The full-time faculty is supplemented by a cadre of highly qualified adjunct instructors who remain as practitioners within the law enforcement community and keep the programs in touch with the modern technology, current trends, and social demands of today's society.

  • Do you offer online classes?

    IPTM's online instruction uses the Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas has a clean and simple layout, making it easy to navigate. It's mobile friendly and has an accompanying app for iOS and Android users.

    Instructor Led

    Our instructor led courses are divided into two groups: Standard and Accelerated.

    Standard courses are arranged in weekly modules, which equate to one day in a classroom environment. Much more than just "page-turners,” each course is interactive with deadlines for specific assignments due each week. While there are no required times to be online, you should plan to dedicate six to eight hours for coursework during each weekly module.

    Accelerated courses offer you the unique opportunity to complete a course in a fraction of the time. Each course follows the schedule of the classroom version. As a result, accelerated courses will require you to spend six to eight hours each day on the course as you would in a normal classroom environment. Always remember, IPTM's staff of expert instructors will be your guides and are available to assist you at every step along the way.

    Independent Study

    Unlike instructor-led training, independent study courses allow you to work at your own pace. The time commitments and project work vary by course, so please review the course description for specific requirements. Instructors are available, via email, to answer your questions, but do not interact unless called upon. While there are no specific start and stop dates the course must be completed within 30 days of registration.

    Video on Demand (VoD)

    Our Videos on Demand (VoDs) provide comprehensive subject-specific information. They are accessible at your convenience and vary in length from one- to six-hour presentations. If you need in-depth information on a specific topic to prepare for an upcoming case, our VoDs can help. You will have access for 30 days after registration.

  • Do your offer ACTAR credit for any of your classes? How do I apply for the credit?

    Most of our crash investigation courses have been approved for ACTAR credit. (View list.)

    To apply for ACTAR CEUs, mail a copy of your certificate of completion to:

    Be sure to include your name as registered with ACTAR, your ACTAR Registration Number, a phone number in case they have questions, and $5 USD. They accept cash, check or money order. For more than one course, include $5 with each course certificate.

  • How can I bring a course to my agency?
    In addition to our open tuition classes, IPTM courses are also available on a contractual basis. Our on-site contract training can be a cost effective means for obtaining customized instruction that is specifically tailored to the needs of your agency. Another option is to host training at your location. Visit our Bring IPTM to You page and complete one of the forms, or call our office at (904) 620-4786 for more information.
  • Is funding available for your courses?

    A limited number of tuition grants have been made available by the Florida Department of Transportation for Florida Law Enforcement Officers to attend specific courses free of charge. Course titles and qualifications vary and may change per funding cycle. Eligible grant-funded courses can be found on our Tuition Free Training Schedule

    Note: Federal and Military Law Enforcement Officers in Florida do not qualify for grant-funded training.

  • How do I obtain a transcript?

    Although the Institute of Police Technology and Management is a part of the University of North Florida, its courses are non-credit. However, since some colleges do accept these hours, we can provide the name of the course(s), date(s), number of hours and grade(s) when the request is in writing. To cover the costs associated with searching for this information, we will assess a $15.00 prepaid fee (U.S. currency). Multiple copies will be assessed a charge of $15.00 for the first and $10 for each subsequent copy requested at the same time.

    Please complete the Transcript Request Form, include your payment and return to our office.

    You can also access complete information regarding your records by creating an account in our registration system. For more information, go to the How to Register page. This only applies to courses attended after January of 2014.

  • How do I obtain a duplicate certificate?
    Due to limited storage space, we do not keep extra certificates after the course has been completed. However, we can have a duplicate certificate made and copied for you.  To cover our costs, a $10.00 prepaid fee (U.S. currency) per certificate must be submitted with your request. Please complete the Duplicate Certificate Request Form, include your payment and return to our office.
  • What types of online training do you offer?

  • Are there prerequisites for the courses offered online?

    Most of the online courses do not have prerequisites. However, a few do, including Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation andPedestrian/Bicycle Crash Investigation - Level I. Please review the individual course description for specific requirements.

  • How do I obtain a username and password?

    If you were registered by someone else and do not know your username/password, click on Forgot Username on the Online Training Portal. You will receive an email with your username, followed by a second email containing your password. This is your username/password to access your online training and to register for future courses. 

    Note: If you reset your username or password, it may take up to 30 minutes for your information to sync with the online portal and to access your class.

  • How to I request technical support?
    Send an email to support@iptm.zendesk.com or click on Technical Support/Trouble Ticket on any of the online training pages. Include as much information on the problem as possible. A member of our technical support team will work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
  • Why is my class not showing in the Online Training Portal?

    It may take up to 30 minutes from the time of registration for your course to appear in the Online Portal.

    Video on Demand/independent study courses should be available 30 minutes after registration. If your VoD/independent study course does not appear after 30 minutes, please click on the Technical Support link on the left side of the Online Portal home screen.

    Instructor-led courses do not appear until 12:01 a.m. on the start date. If your instructor-led course does not appear on the start date, please click on the Technical Support link on the left side of the Online Portal home screen.

  • How long will I have access to my course after completion?

    Once you complete the class, your ability to log back in may be limited. We encourage you to download all of the course resources before checking out of the course.

  • Do I have to be online at specific times?

    Instructor Led: No. Our instructor-led courses are broken down into weekly modules. As long as you complete the assignments by the deadlines indicated in the course, your time online is up to you.

    Video on Demand/Independent Study: These programs are self-paced and can be accessed any time. However, they must be completed within 30 days.

  • How long will the assignments take?

    Although there are no specific times that you must be online, you will be required to complete assignments each week by the deadlines posted within the course. Hence, you must be committed to the course and invest the time necessary for successful completion. You should plan to dedicate an average of five to eight hours per week to the course activities. Please review the course description for any specific requirements.

  • Can I work ahead to complete the training prior to the end date?

    Instructor led: No. The instructors lead the entire class through the material, one module at a time. Each weekly module is released on Monday at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time and closes on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. You will only have access to the information for the current week’s module.

    Video on Demand/Independent Study: These programs are self-paced and can be accessed any time. However, they must be completed within 30 days.

  • What happens if I cannot complete the assignments on time?

    You are responsible for managing your time to meet the predetermined deadlines. We highly recommend that you log on at least every few days and complete weekly modules in smaller sections, rather than waiting until the deadline approaches and trying to do it all at once. Your instructor will work with you throughout the course to keep you on track.

  • How will I be graded?

    In general, you will receive credit for participation in discussion boards, as well as grades on weekly quizzes, exams, and any project work. A score of 80% or better is required to pass a course. The grading scale for each course is listed in the course syllabus located in the introductory section.

  • How do I contact the instructor if I have questions?

    Most courses have required discussion forums where students can discuss topics and ask questions about the material. The instructors will regularly post questions, add comments, and offer instruction in the forums. Instructors will also be available via e-mail to answer any question throughout the course.

  • Do online courses qualify for POST or Commission credit?

    This is determined by the governing authority. Most authorities do allow credit for online courses for competency-based requirements. However, for credit based upon contact hours of instruction, online courses do not generally qualify. Please check with your training department or governing authority for more information.

  • Are there any additional requirements if the online course is grant funded?

    For registrations received between Sept. 1-29: Grant-funded courses close on September 30 at 11:59 pm (est). All course work and the final evaluation must be completed by this time or you will not receive credit for the course, per FDOT Grant Funding Rules.

  • How do I access my certificate after I've completed my online course?

    Upon successful completion, you will receive an email providing you with instructions for downloading/printing your course certificate. The email is typically sent within 24 to 48 hours, but may take up to five (5) business days, excluding holidays and weekends.

  • How do I get to campus and where will I be allowed to park?

    We are located on campus of the University of North Florida (UNF) in beautiful Jacksonville, Florida. To find us, follow these directions.

    From I-95:
    Exit East on J. Turner Butler Blvd.(Exit 344)
    Go approximately seven miles to the Kernan Blvd. exit
    Exit and turn left onto Kernan Blvd.
    Turn left at the second light onto Alumni Dr.
    Turn left at the first light onto Betty Holzendorf Dr.
    Take first left into Adam W. Herbert University Center parking lot
    Follow signs to IPTM (our entrance is at the back of the building)

    From Beach Blvd.:
    From Beach Blvd. head South on Kernan Blvd.
    Turn right at the third light onto Alumni Dr.
    Turn left at the first light onto Betty Holzendorf Dr.
    Take first left into Adam W. Herbert University Center parking lot
    Follow signs to IPTM (our entrance is at the back of the building)

    From the Beaches:
    Go West on J. Turner Butler Blvd. to the Kernan Blvd. exit

    Parking is free while attending classes in our building. However, be prepared to pay for parking if you visit other buildings on campus.

  • How do I find information for a specific training location?

    Visit the Locations page for location and facility information for off-site training. Ground transportation, food and lodging are the responsibility of the student.

  • How can I stay informed on IPTM's news and program updates?
    Subscribe to receive subject-specific email updates. Also follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter. If your job responsibilities have changed, you may want to update your area(s) of interest by updating your preferences. To update your preferences, click on the link at the bottom of an email you receive from us.
  • Can I smoke on campus?

    The University of North Florida is a designated smoke-free campus. This means that the act of smoking is prohibited on all University controlled properties, including recreational facilities, residential buildings, parking lots and garages. E-cigarettes are permitted outdoors only and not to be used inside any building on campus.
