Biography
Steven Travis Strickland is a recently retired Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with more than 32 years of law enforcement experience, including approximately 20 years working undercover. He began his career with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office and the Lumberton Police Department in North Carolina, serving in patrol, narcotics, gang investigations, and S.W.A.T. assignments before joining the ATF in 2005.
During his ATF career, Travis led numerous Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and Title III investigations, earning multiple OCDETF Investigation of the Year awards and the ATF Distinguished Service Award. His long-term undercover operations targeted violent street gangs such as the Bloods, Crips, and Gangster Disciples, helping resolve multiple cold case homicides and resulting in the seizure of firearms, narcotics, “ghost guns,” and Glock machinegun conversion devices.
Travis also established an ATF satellite office in the U.S. Virgin Islands and helped form a HIDTA task force targeting a violent transnational drug trafficking organization, leading to the seizure of more than 150 kilograms of cocaine. He later served as a full-time lead instructor and subject matter expert at the ATF National Academy and is recognized by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina as an expert in undercover operations and Firearms Interstate Nexus identification.
