Troy Anderson

Keynote Speaker

Troy Anderson has been the Executive Director of Officer Safety and Wellness for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C. since June 2021. He has over 35 years in law enforcement, starting as a U.S. Army Military Police Officer during combat in the Gulf War. He served as a Correction Officer in Connecticut, a municipal officer in Massachusetts, and spent 26 years with the Connecticut State Police, retiring as Sergeant and Director of Trooper Wellness and Resilience. He created and managed the State Police STOPS (State Troopers Offering Peer Support) program for ten years.

Following the tragic and unthinkable school shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Mr. Anderson managed the response of the Connecticut State Police Peer Support, Chaplaincy, and CISM teams who were deployed on-site and tasked with providing interventions and debriefings for the affected members of the Connecticut State Police, municipal and federal law enforcement partners, first responder staff, support personnel, imbedded clinicians, and state senior executives.

Surviving and Thriving: Law Enforcement Wellness and Resilience for Modern Day Policing

Mr. Anderson’s presentation will focus on how repeated exposure to traumatic events impact the lives of first responders, both personally and professionally. Through his first-hand experience as a 30+ year law enforcement officer, coupled with two decades of creating, implementing and managing peer support, critical incident stress management, and resilience-based programs, Mr. Anderson will provide attendees with useful psychological tools and explore new approaches providing greater understanding of resources and approaches for self-care.

Now, more than ever, law enforcement officers face a multitude of potential threats to both their physical and psychological wellbeing. Recognizing and addressing these threats will provide a platform for officers to successfully navigate throughout their careers. Attendees will gain greater insight into the current best practice techniques and practices for long-term holistic wellness solutions with a real world, practical approach.
