Pre- and Post-Conference Programs

Expand your knowledge with our pre- and post-conference programs. An ACTAR Preparation course will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2025. The ACTAR exam will be administered on Friday. A limited number of tuition grants for the post-conference training has been made available from the Florida Department of Transportation for Florida Law Enforcement Officers. Note: Click on the course title for information. Separate registration is required. Symposium attendance is not required.

  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Law Enforcement: Laws, Procedures and Best Practices

    Funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, this class is specifically for Florida law enforcement officers. It is designed to help agencies enhance their local pedestrian and bicycle safety efforts and address the high injury and fatality crash problems in their communities.

    As part of the class, we will discuss the crash problem and common violations that are contributing to pedestrian and bicyclist deaths and injuries. You will learn the Florida laws governing pedestrian and bicyclist movements as well as the vehicles driving in their proximity. Most of all, we will discuss common sense education and enforcement actions that can be taken to create a safer walking and biking environment in your jurisdiction.

    Topics Include

    • Common causes of crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists
    • Florida’s laws governing pedestrian and bicyclist movements
    • Laws and duties of motor vehicles driving near pedestrians and bicyclists
    • General enforcement principles
    • Common sense education and enforcement actions
    • Using a comprehensive approach to addressing local crash problems
    • Best practices, Road Safety Audits, and Safe Routes to Schools
    • Educational materials and other resources available to your agency

    Audience

    Florida law enforcement officers

    This class is restricted to current, active law enforcement and prosecutors employed by a governmental agency.

  • Florida DRE Recertification Training

    As required by the Drug Evaluation Classification Program international standards, every DRE must receive a minimum of 8 hours of recertification training within two years of their most recent certification.

    Florida DREs:  This course satisfies the 8-hour recertification training requirement for Florida DREs. Tuition is funded by the Florida Department of Transportation.

    Out of state DREs: You may to attend for $325. However, to earn recertification hours, you will need approval from your state coordinator.

    Audience

    Drug Recognition Experts, DRE Instructors 

    Class is restricted to DREs who are current, active law enforcement officers employed by a governmental agency.

  • ACTAR Exam

    The Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction will administer the ACTAR Exam.

    Application Submission Deadline:  Monday, March 24, 2025

    Exam Registration Deadline:  Wednesday, April 23, 2025
